Vegas Video 4 - How do I turn off the camera controls?

I'm using Vegas Video 4 and want to send video (from a external source
eg VHS recorder or direct from TV) through the camera, to the firewire
and to Vegas Video to be captured on the hard drive.
When I click on the Vegas Video record button (after selecting Capture
Video) the video camera's tape drive operates. I tried pressing the
camera's stop button but only get 5 seconds of the External video
recorded before Vegas Video stops recording.
I tried removing the tape from the camera but Vegas Video sensed that
I have no tape in the camera and would not let me record from the
    external source.

There must be some option in Vegas Video to disable the camera
controls. I've looked in the help menu but have not been able to find
    this option.

    Hoping you can help me

    Regards Brian

Open Vegas' Vid Capture, options/preferences, and 'unclick' the enable DV
    device control box (first box).
