Video format for American, European Broadcast

Discussion in 'Professional Video Production' started by Raskolnikov Alexis Friedemann, Jun 25, 2005.

  1. Planning on making a video that will be broadcast in Europe, possibly
USA. It's going to be shot on mini div. What format should we convert
to for broadcast in Germany, Poland ? We're shooting standard NTSC on
Canon GL2s. Should we convert the output in Premiere into PAL format
and record the signal on a PAL deck? We'll then have to have th tape
    converted to digital Betacam?

Also, will it matter if we shoot or use any footage shot at 30p?

    Any idea, links?

    Thanks,

    RA

Why don't you have Premiere spit out two separate masters, one in PAL
    and one in NTSC?

  3. Software conversions are not good enough. For best quality edit in the
acquisition format and then have standards conversion done by a Snell
and Wilcox Alchemist at a facility house. The Alchemist is unique at its
    quality level.

It's usually best to produce in PAL though for European broadcasters as
NTSC conversions from PAL masters are better than the other way around.
