I had my camera in one hand and my tripod in the other and I tripped over
something. I haven't went flying like that since I was a little kid. Well
it appears that the sum of the damage is the plastic (composite?) piece,
attached to the collar that slides in the channel to move the viewfinder
from side to side. Got that? My question is there some reason that I
shouldn't superglue it back together. The broken pieces seem to mate up
fine. Any better suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the knurled ring that, when tightened, locks the side to side travel of
    the viewfinder.

It's not load-bearing, so it should work fine with Superglue.
