virtualdub: inserting chapters in video files?

    HI?
    Virtualdub *: How to insert index marks (like chapters in dvd) in avi,
    mpeg2, mpeg4, videos files?

    Use VirtualDubMod, instead of Plain VDub.

    In the Streams menu, you can import a chapter file, or add them manually.

    You then need to save it to a different container than .AVI, as .AVI does
    not support chapters. Save it to a .mkv or .ogm file instead. If you have
    both video and audio listed as "direct stream copy" there will be no
    recompression, and it will only take seconds to save the .mkv or .ogm file.

    There are several excellent freeware media players, such as Media Player
    Classic, that will play .ogm and .mkv movie files.
