My wife's Visioneer 8820 keeps losing the connection to her computer.
Usually and cold start of scanner and then computer will allow them to
    talk again.

Her machine is a Dell P-4 4500 with XP Home. The connection is USB 2.0.

    Any possible workarounds or fixes?

Where exactly is the power management for the scanner located?

    Thanks for replying,

    Heteph,

Thanks for all of your help. After I contacted EPSON tech support
Tuesday morning, it took about 10 minutes to get it going.

He just told me to ignore the Microsoft warning and use the driver. I
had already done and my entire system locked up. This time things went
    perfectly.

So I have been happily scanning old family pictures , slides and other
    stuff since Tuesday morning.

I have a question though. Should I use the EPSON software that comes
with it? Or should I use a third party program like Paperport which
apparently is the best third party scanner program on the market.

Are there any other comparable to, or better than PaperPort 9.0?

What are the advantages to using one of those third party ones instead
    of the EPSON software.

    Peace
