I have started the process to call for an official vote for
rec.photo.equipment.sigma. The vote will probably start sometime next
week. I have received an overwhelming amount of email support for this
proposal, so there is a *very* *good* chance of this group passing.
The CFV will be posted here. Thanks.

I abstain from votes for which I have no interest, but this one I will
support hard to provide a haven for Sigma fans. <g>

    From whom? Your other sockpuppets?

    Dicktard.
    Very much doubt it.

You seem to believe that he won't cross-post like mad from that
    newsgroup if it passes.

I have no such belief, and will vote accordingly. (Though I
guess that I could simply set up my filtering to reject anything
    cross-posted to that newsgroup. :)

    Enjoy,
    DoN.

This is a great idea, since it will keep imbeciles like Preddy and his
sockpuppets (you) out of this NG. I'm all for it if you promise to go there
    and never come here again.

But given the reactions posted only in news.groups, I think that
it is highly unlikely that it would pass -- even if every active poster
and lurker on this newsgroup posted in favor.

And what about when he pops up (in whichever incarnation or
cluster of them) and posts here *anyway*? We can't ammend the charter
to make Sigma off topic, so what do we do?

    Enjoy,
    DoN.

ah hell, you're making me reply seriously:

There is no need for a .sigma group. If there were genuine Sigma
posters they would be no less welcome, and they would likely be good
contributors to the NG's (rpd and rpd.slr-s.)

Instead, those potential legitimate Sigma posters are drowned out by the
stupidity of Preddy in all his sock puppeted incarnations; and the
    derision he receives.

    Cheers,
    Alan

Unfortunately. And this means that the camera cannot get
whatever serious consideration it may deserve. (I've never seen one, so
I can't judge it -- except by the company which it appears to keep. :)

For that matter -- if the CFV *passed*, what are the odds that
the camera would get a fair discussion, even there, given the
proponents. (At least until they got tired of playing in their own
    newsgroup.)

    Enjoy,
    DoN.

P.S. I'm going to modify the subject line to ask a related question,
but I'll leave it linked to the current thread, as I think that
    it belongs here.

I've left this linked to the original thread, as I believe that it
    should be.

I just got an invite to join gmail, from
"". I wonder how many others in this thread have
    gotten the same.

Can we have a show of hands? Is he "inviting" everyone who
    disagrees with him?

Setting aside for the moment the consideration of whether or not
I would *want* a gmail account, what are the odds that I would accept an
invitation from this source? After all, there is guilt by association.

And I really don't see what a gmail account would do for me that
I can't do with my own mail server (and lots of things which I could
    *not* do with gmail.)

    Enjoy,
    DoN.

    Not I.
I guess I don't take his bait often enough.
It's great for my tech mailing lists. Well over 2 GB of storage right now
and growing every day, I'm only at 62MB of 2318MB but I can archive a
helluva lot of messages. OTOH I would never use it for personal email.

  13. If only this were true. We "genuine" posters are not drowned out by Preddy
but rather by the likes of others. Guilty by association seem sto be the
rule. If that's the case then all Canon owners must be rude and insipid
like Ainsworth or full of misinformation like Scharf, right?

Apropos of this, anyone else getting Gmail invites off "Preddy"?

    not me.
There is no 'memory' attached to the gmail account you get. Once you
delete any e-mails in the gmail account related to how you got invited,
there is no trace of it that anyone outside google mail (and possibly
not there) that would connect you to Preddy. If it might make you feel
better, I'll send you a fresh 'untainted' invite...
A lot of people have 'alternate' accounts at yahoo, hotmail and gmail, I
certainly do, and I've been using the gmail invite mechanism to send out
invites to a lot of people, a few of whom are here in the photo NG's.

Such accounts have bailed me out a few times on the road when I couldn't
get my laptop to dial in to a network ... pop down to the hotel lobby,
or into a customers computer and via hotmail/yahoo/gmail access e-mail.

It seems the longer I'm with gmail, the more "invite opportunities" I
get to send out to whomever.

    Cheers,
    Alan

No. Preddy is a pebble who hit sthe same place in the pond, the same
way, over and over gnerating waves and having mirror (sockpuppets) reply.

Others are a random selection of manner. And in that you get a spectrum
    of response...

    Cheers,
    Alan

Thanks, but I probably would not subscribe anyway. Not that I
would consider your invite "tainted". :) But mostly, I am accustomed to
being able to block unwanted e-mail, and he has been added to the
    blocklist.

    Enjoy,
    DoN.

If it does pass—and I don't see why it shouldn't, philosophically
speaking—the only increment in difficulty for the useful and concerned
citizens of Usenet is that someone will have to ride herd on Mr
Sigma-millstone in yet another venue. I'm sure someone will, for
altruistic or other reasons, intervene between his misinformation and
the wholesale acceptance he hopes for. Thank goodness for do-gooders.

  20. Let's call a "Preddy" a Steve Giovanella, as he has a commercial
photography business, and at some point will not want his shenanigans
associated therewith. At least, some time ago a convincing case was made
here, and there's never been a post attributable to Giovanella that
refutes a word of it. And, for the record, if I am wrong an this is a
horrible mistake, I'll be quick to apologize.

As to Sigma posters who are for real, they may be as much pushed away by
the numb rumblings of those who automatically deride any post with that
brand name mentioned, as Giovanella, his socks and his imitators
    combined have done.
