That's what I want for my next camera purchase. I desperately want to find
a compact camera that recycles in a second or two indoors, with flash. Is
that pie-in-the-sky? I've got a Coolpix 4100 now, and while the size is
good, the camera durable and dependable, and the image quality is
acceptable, the slow recycle times make it impractical for my current need.
I think the main problem is that it uses two AA batteries. The little
camera is pulling the load of a larger camera with only half the power.
Perhaps a compact camera with a rechargeable battery would work better (???)

    Input greatly appreciated.

My Canon iXus has a Lithium Ion battery and the "cycle" is pretty good.

My first digital camera was a SONY FD88 I bought in 1999. While the
original battery is still "good" the cycle of the camera is terrible by
    today's standards.

If you want to keep the Nikon, try NiMh batteries (they come in AA size), or
you may be able to get Lithium Ion batteries and a converter/holder from
    Nikon.

After you investigate the pricing, it may be more economical to go for a
    newer camera. Good luck.

Have a look at the reviews on www.dpreview.com . Usually they test the
recycle time, so you can compare. You'll have to delve into the 'timings'
section of the reviews to find this info.
