I use various video editing software with ease but I would like to cross over
and be able to design a web page to encorporate my video.

It seams like an awesome task to design a web page. Not something just plain
boring that gets the job done but actual eye popping work. If I have the
content (video, stills etc.) I dont' want to learn Java and everything else.

All I need is a basic of how Vegas works and away I go but is there anything
like this to make a web page from scratch?

  2. Eye popping work takes years of work to master. Many Web designers are
graphic artist, and have gone though schooling.

Personally, I don't like Java. It's more of an application software, and
less of a design software. Flash is better suited for many things web.
Most of the true eye-poping sites are done using Flash. Flash has a
very step learning curve though.. In fact, any NLE software is like
child's play compared to the Flash GUI. And when you get into
Actionscript, it gets 10 times worse. It can be very frustrating for a
    beginner.

    Why not just hire someone?

Dreamweaver for starters. Beyond that.. Notepad. No seriously..
Notepad. You need to learn how to write a HTML document from scratch in
    order to truly learn it.

You can get the Flash Movie codecs with Sorenson Squeeze MX for $199,
which is alot cheaper than buying Flash MX.

The Wimpy player is excellent. You can get decent streaming without
having to have a streaming server. I have vids on a bargian host and it
works without a flaw. The flash movie format is decent. At the 384K
setting you can get a good quality vid to stream. Four min Vid will take
up about 10-12 Meg. See www.cat23.com for some examples if you like.
