For some reason I can't find it. What's the website of the list of
people's experiences with all the scam companies selling photo

It's an individual who posts here from time to time. Can't recall his
name. He rides around on a bicycle and snaps the home-base pigsty when
some fly-by-night outfit pops up into existence.

No, but that one is pretty interesting. The one I'm thinking of had
tesimonial after tesimonial, most of them negative, about people
    various individual experiences.

  7. The place isn't the same without the daily naïf from
Iowa telling of his woes with Cambridge Camera.

"I bought this camera from the place with the
lowest price in the world and I am getting
lousy service! I don't understand why."

I imagine the gullible are buying digital cameras.
Maybe there is some action on rped.

I don't think that's the same site. That one looks good, but the one
I'm thinking of dealt with photo stores exclusively. I believe it was
part of a larger overall photo website. I want to say, but I
looked there and saw nothing familiar.

  10. I love the 17th st. ratings: every one a fake. How do they
manage to not have one negative comment.

Look at B&H, Adorama, Freestyle, Calumet for real responses
to very good customer service. If at least 10% aren't bitches
then the data is skewed. Ditto if 10% aren't all happy smiles.

And one liners of the: "Great Service!!! Would buy again in a heartbeat!!!!"
translate to "Beware, here be scam artists.".

It's imperfect, to be sure. Of course you would have to sort through
it and pick out the true from the bogus. Some people will fall for the
plants, and those people would probably have been taken anyway by
positive testamonials on a company's own website that *everybody* is
    always happy.

I should probably add that the site wasn't as good as I
remembered it being. Must be that age/memory thing. :)

  13. The old list was a periodic usenet posting, Google
should have it in the archives.

    ..... bingo:

Google for "Photographic Mail Order Survey" on www
    or G.Groups.

But just because he has a picture of their location doesn't mean they're
scammers. He's got a photo of B&H's warehouse there, and photo's of
another company I bought from several years ago.

Called 'em up and placed my order. Got the goods as advertised and at
the advertised price; no surprises. I don't care what the building looks
like. I care if they do honest business.

Another interesting thing is to see how some locations responses change
over time ... going down hill, or sometimes getting better.

It always amazes me that people are always posting questions like,
"Hey, this store I never heard of before has the absolutely bestest in
the entire Solar System price for the new NiCakon model 50000 DSLR.
What do you guys all think?"

And predictably, someone looks up the score on
this store and either it's not listed or the score is lower than the
tax rate for a poverty-level person.

We must go through this drill at least once a month in this group.

Folks! places like B&H or Adorama or the other ones listed all give
you good service along with a good price. Why shop anywhere else?
