    Hello to all,

Myl local camera specialist ( Gerry Gibbs Carousel WA),
has the Pentax *ist ( DS ) for $1250 new ( body only)

What would be a reasonable price to pay for a *ist D on the second hand
    market.

I priced the *ist D in Feb and was $2450 new ( body only ) so they have
    certainly come down in price.

Judging by what people seem to be prepared to pay for other second hand DSLRs,
it will be about $100 less than a brand new *ist D.

Second hand price would depend upon which model of *ist (there are 2 models).

Not really - the *istD is still around that sort of money. $2600-$3000
depending on bundled lenses (haven't seen a body only price lately). it is
the *istDS that is the cheap one. These are two completely different
cameras. The DS does not replace the D, the D is a more advanced camera and
fetches a higher price. A 2nd hand D will probably be as scarce as hen's
teeth for a couple of reasons - Not as many sold as the Nikon/Canon DSLR's,
It is a better camera than the cheap Nikon/Canon cameras, Pentax owners
don't tend to feel the need to upgrade every time a new model is released
(unlike Nikon/Canon owners who are constantly waiting for them to finally do
it right), and Pentax haven't yet released a higher spec'd model that would
encourage people to upgrade. If you do happen to find a good condition 2nd
hand *istD then I wouldn't expect it to cost much less than a new unit.

Thanks for pointing out that they are two different cameras

I will stick to the MZ 7 with Sigma EX 28 -70 mm lens for now

    Errrrrrr....

Just before Xmas you could get the *Ist D for around AUS $100 bucks more
    than the *Ist DS.

    The price difference was negligible.

But having said that, you'd be lucky to find a 2nd hand one anywhere as it's
still Pentax's top of the range 35mm DSLR.

If they ever release a new "full feature" model then things may change.

    bazz.
