I don't have DSC F7 17 to know what it's, but if you have problem with
digital camera then few basic general steps you may want to do.

    1. Remove and reinsert the battery, if it still don't work then check to
make sure the battery is ok.

    2. If the regular battery is ok, then you may want to check see if the
camera may have a smaller battery. Check and replace the bettery if it's
    dead.

    3. If it's DSLR camera then remove the lens the reattack it, or try
different lens see if some contact may cause problem.

.. after you try all the basic things you can think of, then give more
detail of what you have tried see if anyone here has similar experience to
share with you. Then you may want to GOOGLE for more answer before send to
    factory etc..

Thanks Joel, I tried all the basic steps which you have mentioned but
still the LCD screen remains black. Since it is not a DSLR, the lens
is nondetachable. I removed the battery and the SD card several times,
but that doesn't work. This camera got a video feature and the sound
works well but without any visual presence. I charged the battery too
last night and it seems OK. However, the same problem still hangs out.
What shall i do now? Thanks again for the help.

    Hi everyone,

if you your sony cybershot's Lcd goes black, some of you don't have to
worry. This morning after browsing sony's official website and found
that some of the digicam and cybershot made before March 2004 has a
CCD (image sensor) problem which also included mine. But the good news
is that Sony will repair it free of cost, including shipping. So if
your sony's lcd doesn't work, the free of cost repair by sony will
goes from October 3, 2005 through October 2, 2007. You have to fill in
the form and just wait for their response. I am giving the link http://
    esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=118&mdl=DSCF717

Though my camera is not working, but I can relly on Sony.

And if it isnt the defective ccd it might not be worth repairing, but
there should be a reset in the main menue that might work.

    Hi Ransley,

I tried to reset my camera but it didn't work. The sony website gave
the procedure to check whether its a defect in the CCD and mine goes
exactly the website categorized as the defective CCD. Thanks for your
    suggestion.
