What software do the big companies use? B/W movie to colour?

Out of interest does anyone know what software companies use to
enhance movies before transfering to DVD?

Also is there software to colour black and white movies.
I'm told that old movies were coloured by using a computer.
Maybe there is still a lot of labour in colouring a black and white
    movie.

I think the term was COLORISE, do a Google search on that word. Yes, lots of
    links.

What an idea, another great way to waste away the hours that mortals would
    foolishly use for sleeping.

    Thanks.

In reply to your message below.
I certainly have not wasted away hours reading this newsgroup. I've
gained a lot by reading the many repies and I'm sure others have also.

I believe you misunderstood my intent. I like your idea, it is likely that I
will spend some time exploring the idea, even if I have to manually generate
some B/W video to colorise. If you were offended, I apologize, I was trying
    to be funny.

  6. I seem to recall an TV Interview on Ted Turner Colorizing B&W Movies. He
stated that the process was very lengthy, involved and costly - that's why
    it never caught on.

Check Google for the Interview -
