In Pinnacle Studio 8, when you do "create file but don't burn" where does
the file get stored? Can you change the location?

You can put it wherever you want!...

If you click on the "Make Movie" tab, then on the "Disc" tab, the "make
    disc" window appears.
At the top right of this window is the "settings..." button, which allows
you to select the "Create disc content but don't burn" option.
Then click on the folder icon (to the left of the "settings..." button). A
dialogue appears which shows you where Studio 8 will save the disc content
files to. You can change this by selecting thelocation you want from the
    folder/files list in this dialogue.

Search your HD for files with a .vob extension. Not sure if you can
change the location in Studio8. Most other programs allow you to
    change it.

If you don't change the directory settings and I assume that you installed
Pinnacle and Windows on C: and you use Windows 2000 or XP, then it is stored
    in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\My Documents\Pinnacle Studio\Auxiliary
    Files\<ProjectName>\DVD\Video_ts
