Canon UK has an outlet that sells "discontinued" and "refurbished"
items, both through camera stores like ours and on eBay.

It's a good place to buy a brand new PowerShot G11, EOS 350D etc..

Though I do wonder whether some of these items are still produced for
    Canon's emerging markets.

Box stores because of their size can often get very good prices on
discontinued product. Makes perfect logical sense. If you were Canon USA
and you had for example 100,000 units of the T2i and the T3i was being
shipped, would you prefer to sell all 100K units to one warehouse, or to
ship a few each to multiple dealers. Bet you would cut that deal to
    empty your warehouse.

You'd also reserve the newer models for smaller/specialty businesses
to keep the big-boxes from undercutting their prices.
