    Hi all,

I'm going to buy a Canon 300D soon and I was wondering where the cheapest place
to buy one of them is in Australia. I've seen them for about $1577 at
    www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au including postage.

    Can anyone help?

Why, do you want us to pay the postage to make it cheaper for you?

    =)

Man, just buy it - that's a good price

There's lots of slightly used ones on e-bay and in the trading post as well,
    so look around.

Why not look for the 10D. They are hitting the market here in Perth second
hand. The prices are a little high but will soon drop to a reasonable level.

Yeah, I still think the 10D prices on ebay are a tad high. lots of them
going with the extra grip + batteries and the like. At the current ebay
prices there is very little incentive, much better just to buy a new 20D get
the new warranty, peace of mind and a brand newie!

What about the Pentax ist*D with 18-50 and 55-200mm lenses for $1599 at
    www.ccccamerahouse.com.au ?

Some reckon it's a far superior camera to the 300D. I'm tempted to get
one as an interim camera until stocks of 20D are such that there aren't
huge waiting lists..... that and I need a DSLR very soonish..... :(

Myer Melbourne (and I assume other states) had 300D kit with 18-55 lens
for 1799 minus 15% for one night only. It was tonight. Worked out to be
1529.15. Plus redemption for Crumpler bag and 256Mb CF.

    It's very true. I couldn't believe it myself. That's why I'm heavily
tempted to buy it in lieu of waiting for 20Ds to come into stock and my
bank balance reaching the high enough amount!

I'll still think it's too good to be true until you've got it in your hands.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's an import before GST price. Unfortunately I
don't have WWW access to check out the details.

Plenty of people have been buying them. Dirt Cheap Cameras have also
dropped their price, as have a number of other online sellers. It
appears to be a price drop by the importers. It sounds too good to be
true, but it is a genuine deal and I've spoke to two of the Camera
House shops about it, and they both offered me the 1599 price. Teds in
Pitt St offered it for 1799, and I think DirtCheap is about $1650.

You're still as sceptical as ever Ben ;)

Something I found in another newsgroup. But the special of the day is really
the Pentax IST D at $1599 with two lenses. Hurry stocks limited and since it
uses the same shutter and chip as the Nikon D100. Bargain...

accessories. This is the Japanese version of the Canon 300D. The only
difference is that the Kiss version is finished in all black colour, must
the same finish as the Canon 10D. Had a few emails asking why I am selling,
the reason is I have recently had major back surgery and I will not be
returning to work for at LEAST 3 months, Christmas is just around the corner
and I will need some dollars to keep the kids happy. I can always buy
another camera when I return to work. Anyway, below are the details. I will
drop as low as $1600 for a cash buyer but if I cannot get that I will not be
    parting with the gear.

    28 to 80mm zoom lens
    75 to 300mm USM-II zoom lens
1gb IBM micro drive (OVER 500 pic's in max res setting :)
    1 X 58mm UV filter
    1 X 58mm Circ. Polarizer filter
1 X set of 4 Hoya close up filters
    4 X Li-ion batteries
    Pelican 1400 case, Lifetime guarantee.
    AC charger.

Comes complete with original packaging box, manuals, software etc etc and is
    in as new condition.

You can contact me on 0433196804 if your interested. The link provides the
spec's and the only difference is the black finish compared to the silver
colour of the 300D. If this does not sell in the coming week or so I will
put it all on Ebay. Replacment cost is well in excess of $2500.

    Thanks for looking in.

I've heard some bad things about dirtcheapcameras. Has centre.net.au matched them?

It's based on what I've seen on bizrate.com and other price comparison websites.
Usually the web shops with the really low prices (about $200 or more less than
    competitors) have really bad ratings.

CCC Camera House is not a web-store though. They have shops in the
Sydney CBD, Double Bay, and Chatswood. But they also have their website
which you can pickup from In-Store. I fail to see what bizrate has
anything to do with the validity of the price. DirtCheap have a soiled
rep due to past business with the oline presence being taken over.
centre.net.au I have had no dealings with, but they also seem fairly
cheap. I've also listed Teds which is B&M stores who have a reduced
price on the kit. Not sure what else there is to do to convince you
    it's a genuine deal.

It's a great deal, take it or leave it. Many people have taken it. And
if it wasn't for splurging during the Minardi F1 auction, I'd probably
have taken the deal too.... oh well.

I wasn't trying to say bizrate having anything directly to do with ccc camera
house, just illustrating that dirt cheap prices usually smell a bit off. That's
not to say that you can't get a great deal some times.

Your mention of the fact that they are a B&M store actually makes me much more
    trusting of the deal.

I'll look into it some more if the minister for finance comes round.
What what what? When was that auction? Wish I'd known about it.

You should be able to find it in the B&Ms down your way too. I reckon
it's the bargain of the year.......

www.bachellp.com/minardi - was held Wed-Sat last week. Some good stuff
went up for grabs, some lucky SOB got a 1992 Brabham for around
    11,000GBP.
