Any video format can be transcoded or converted to any other video format.
iPod video is mpeg4/divx, which can be readily transcoded to mpeg2 (the
    format used for DVD).

    Not without coversion. See
www.videohelp.com for assistance in this regard. You want to convert MP4
    to DVD.

You may also find some 'easy' button programs that will handle
conversion and DVD creation if you search the web.

Word of warning. Itunes videos are highly compressed and designed to be
watched on the tiny Ipod screen. You may be dissapointed in the display
quality if you convert them to DVD format.

  4. Doesn't the iPod have a video out? How does it look on TV?

It does have a video out. It looks about like standard VHS, perhaps a
    little lower in quality.

  6. Looks like maybe I did it wrong. The conversions I've done are great
on the iPod, but on the big screen :) they are only suitable for Ed
    Wood movies.

Not really a problem - I only want to watch them on the little
    screen anyway.

I tried it just to see how it would look. One thing I noticed, the non-OEM
eBay-special cable that I used needed to be jiggled a bit to get the best
picture. When I first plugged it in, it was a smeary, Ed Wood mess. A
little jiggling got me VHS-more-or-less quality. I don't know if it's my
    iPod or the cheapie cable.

Like the talking horse who lisps, it's impressive enough that the iPod can
    do this at all.

  8. I like the talking horse metaphor :)

I should really try it on a regular TV (CRT Standard Def), rather
than the LCD, just to see if it's different. Gotta find one I can
    use ...

Even a bad picture is OK in an emergency, like having suddenly to
show it to a few people, and it's nice to know I can crawl into a
corner somewhere and watch The Marriage of Figaro on the iPod when I
    need a Mozart fix ...
