Is anyone using Minolta Scan Dual with Win XP? If they are, where
    did they find a driver?

As an aside, is anyone else concerned that hardware and software
seems to become obsolete and unusable in rather short timescales?
My film cameras and lenses are the equivelent of an 8086 computer
with a 32 MByte hard drive in age terms but function perfectly.
Anything which plugs into a PC is a hostage to fortune, and some
of that kit is not cheap.

I asked somewhere else too and got some info from other owners.
It seems it depends on the exact model, some will work with XP,
some early one wont, I think mine might be old, I will probably
end up opting from a dual boot system 98/XP. I have to reboot
anyway to start the scanner, so just a matter of doing all
scanning in one session. Alternative approach, buy a full frame
digital body and drop scanning (after scaning all my slides just
in case I need them) !!!

Dont forget that some software will run in compatibility mode right click
the properties. third tab compatibility and pick the os.
Oh and with xp you install the drivers before the hardware the PNP finds it
as you boot up after connecting the hardware. Doing it the other way round
can give problems with device not found.

after more research I have established on Minolta site that early
Scan Dual is incompatible with XP, so i'm sticking with 98 for
the present and buying a EZDigiMagic memory card to CD stand
alone that gets round problems of using the various bits of
soft/hardware (inc Pentax), that dont want to work under 98.
Infanview can handle the Pentax RAW files under 98 and thence to
PS as TIffs. Hopefully. Thanks for all the suggestions.

and I predict that unlike my current film bodies and lenses (that
still work earliest with latest) that in 5 years time current
digital body owners will be struggling to connect to PCs of that
    time.

Minolta site use to say if DUALSCAN box has a G3 mac compatible stamp
    it should work with XP?

Is the Scan Dual is SCSI device? - If so, you probably need Win ASPI (which
for some obscure reason was omitted from XP) to make the SCSI interface
    work.

You can download Win ASPI from the Adaptec site. I think that you get a dire
warning that installing it will screw up the Microsoft XP SCSI driver but
unless you have other SCSI devices that are already working under XP then
this should not be a problem.

    Early ones like mine, yes.
noted if I'm forced to go to XP before the scanner dies. Thanks.
