Windows Laptop For Video Editing

  1. Looking for a Windows laptop around a $1000 that will perform well
    with Premiere 6 and an external firewire video drive. I could also
    use a recommendation on which PCMCIA firewire card to get. Poor
    battery life is not an issue for me.

    My compaq 2170us ($800) works fine with Vegas and a generic Firewire PCMCIA
    cardbus card works great. My Firewire DVD burner works great with it also. I
    don't think you will have a problem with any of the notebooks available
    these days.

  3. Thanks. Looks like the new model is 2171us

    I've had problems with AMD desktops, so I wanted to stick with Intel.
    Appreciate the tip. BTW, for all the hype Dell gets, I think Compaq's
    website blows theirs away in ease of use.

  4. The laptop arrived yesterday, and I am now happily editing with
    Premiere 6.0 and an external firewire drive. Works great so far, but
    the rendering is not as fast as my Athlon 1800+. The new laptop has a
    2.4 gig Celeron with 192 RAM.

    Glad to know that a celeron unit works for editing. I too might be buying a
    laptop for the same reason
