Windows Laptop For Video Editing

Discussion in 'Amateur Video Production' started by BrianEWilliams, Sep 23, 2003.

  1. Looking for a Windows laptop around a $1000 that will perform well
with Premiere 6 and an external firewire video drive. I could also
use a recommendation on which PCMCIA firewire card to get. Poor
battery life is not an issue for me.

My compaq 2170us ($800) works fine with Vegas and a generic Firewire PCMCIA
cardbus card works great. My Firewire DVD burner works great with it also. I
don't think you will have a problem with any of the notebooks available
    these days.

  3. Thanks. Looks like the new model is 2171us

I've had problems with AMD desktops, so I wanted to stick with Intel.
Appreciate the tip. BTW, for all the hype Dell gets, I think Compaq's
website blows theirs away in ease of use.

  4. The laptop arrived yesterday, and I am now happily editing with
Premiere 6.0 and an external firewire drive. Works great so far, but
the rendering is not as fast as my Athlon 1800+. The new laptop has a
2.4 gig Celeron with 192 RAM.

Glad to know that a celeron unit works for editing. I too might be buying a
    laptop for the same reason
