Does anyone out there know of a Canon 17-35mm F2.8L lens (or the 16-35)
that's for sale. If you have one for sale, or know of someone who does,
please let me know. Of course I mean one that is not being sold brand new by
    a camera shop.

Any pointers would be much appreciated

again). Comes with back cap,m hood and hoya fron filter. A few scuffs but
    overall goodlooking lens. Glass perfect

There was one in the Trading post last week, probably gone by now.

There is also one (S/H 17-35L) at quality cameras in Burwood.

IMHO you'd be better off going for the new 17-40L over the 17-35, it's
    notoriously soft.

  4. Wow, I would expect them to be in EXCELLENT not just excellent condition for
    THOSE prices.

  5. That's about the going rate.... I would think you could pay a little more
for ones that would pass as new.

I didn't actually see it, so I can't comment except from memory it was
described as EC, it may jsut have been someone keen to dump it to get a
17-40L, as I know the shops are offering f'all for the 17-35's as trade ins.

I know a lot of 17-35L's are starting to pop up as the 17-40L gains ground

I think the realistic 17-35 S/H price is usually around $1200 in EC

They are asking a fair bit......but speak to Dave, it actually belongs to
the guy that does there Leica Lens repairs, and he's just bought a new
17-40L, so I think if you try negotiating you may get a reasonable price. I
know it is in mint condition.

I would think that people buying the 17-35 would rate the 2.8 aperture as
important as the focal length. If the 17-40 was 2.8L then ....

  9. It's not the focal length, but the image quality.... the 17-35 f2.8 is not
as good as the 16-35 f2.8 and the 17-35 f4 is rated as good or better than
the 16-35 f2.8..... for my money this increased image quality is more
important than the one stop.... but that just me. :)
